Room Parents Each classroom has at least one or two parent representatives. A Room Parent serves as an interface between the parent body, PTO, and the Classroom Teachers. This role can be shared among several parents from a class, and responsibilities can be divided up.
Room Parent responsibilities include:
1. Supporting your classroom teachers. This may include organizing volunteers for classroom social events, coordinating class baskets, sending periodic emails to the class parent body.
2. Supporting the PTO and school events, by attending occassional meetings, informing your class of volunteer opportunities and/or getting the word out to parents regarding upcoming events.
3. Serving as a link in communicating information between parents and teachers. As a representative for your class, parents may approach you about ideas they would like to share with the teacher or classroom.
4. At least one room parent from each class should try to attend PTO meetings to ensure that there is regular communications between the parent body and the administration.
5. Assists with implementing teachers’ appreciation event and teacher’s gift (as appropriate).
Note: Room parents must not fund any events on their own. All participation is on a voluntary basis.
If you would like to volunteer to be a Room Parent speak with your childs teacher or attend one of our monthly PTO meetings.
