Spring Family Social
The 2009-2010 school year brought the circus to town. This fundraising
event was paired in conjunction with a Circus Smirkus residency.
The week long program allowed the children of SMS to participate
in an enrichment program that included circus related lesson plans
for art, music, science, history, math, and language skills.
Circus is a non-competitive physical art form that extended
to many parts of the school curriculum. Circus training
requires the same dedication, discipline, and hard work
of any sport, but it stresses collaboration rather than
competition.
The best part -- the Smirkus residency ended with an exciting
all-school circus performance, carnival, silent and class
basket auctions! Parents loved it!
